Our Waikanae Team

Our team cares for and loves each person who lives at Millvale House like we would a very best friend. This means that people feel loved and important. We:

  • accept you as you are
  • really listen to you
  • love to hear you laugh
  • forgive your mistakes
  • have fun together

We have the knack of working with people with dementia.

We believe that the people who make up our Millvale team need to be nurtured too. Millvale offers a service where all team members can see the doctor free of charge. Staff Support is offered by Millvale and delivered by Workplace Support N.Z. This means the people who make up our team are assisted to be completely available to the people they care for.

All of our staff have much experience in caring for people with dementia. They are specialists in their field. Our team has been hand picked with great care.

Marjorie Nillo - Clinical Manager

I am very proud to lead the Millvale care team. I provide support and supervision to the registered nurse team. I know exactly how each resident is doing each day. I am always available if any registered nurse needs to talk about the care of a resident. I orientate all care staff with a comprehensive orientation programme and really enjoy seeing new staff develop skills in working with the residents. I enjoy many special moments with the residents.

Diversional Therapist

Alison Airlie-Lapwood and June Simpson

Alison and June share the diversional therapy role. June is full time with Alison coming in each afternoon. They work closely with every resident. On admission, they gather information from family/whanau. This helps the diversional therapists to find pathways to communicate with each person. These are done through various means, some through group activities and many one to one sessions. June and Alison also organize social events and entertainers both in-house or out in the community. Alison, June and the residents love to have family/whanau involved and would welcome you to join us at anytime.

Sue Frances - Kitchen

Sue Frances is our cook. Sue takes a real pride in her kitchen and ensures the food looks and is appetizing. She does wonderful baking.

Dr Kate Averi - Home Doctor

Kate Averi is our home doctor. She says she loves coming to Millvale and that she loves taking care of our residents - they are so delightful. She has been working as the home doctor here for some years. Being the home doctor at Millvale is very challenging, enjoyable and satisfying.

Simon Hamley - Education Coordinator

I have worked as a registered nurse for the past 25 years, most of that in the UK. I love working in dementia care; each day is different and I strive to get to know each person for who they are, the life they have lead and the things they enjoy.

Education is an area that has always given me great satisfaction. It is great to see staff learn and grow and improve skills and I am always keen to share my experience and knowledge with them. As a nurse, I have always been a teacher – nurses teach clients and families about health and how to manage health problems. However, I have also been lucky enough to spend time teaching adults in a 'classroom' situation, most recently at Kings Education in Christchurch teaching elderly care.

Away from work I have a passion for football (soccer) and have coached several boys teams (teaching again!) I want all staff to feel comfortable, confident and happy to provide wonderful care. Sadly, I am loosing my hair, but my Father once told me - 'Grass never grows on a busy street'.

Registered Nurses

Cheryl Macaspac, Somaly Thach, Jing Dinglasan, Liz Wilkinson

Are our registered nurses. They get to know each resident very well. They assess each person’s needs and then plan the care for each person.  They lead the caregiver team, coaching them and ensuring they give the very best care possible. A registered nurse always ring family if a loved one is unwell, unhappy, or has had an incident.  They keep in touch with family.

Full and Part Time Caregivers.

We have a large team of full and part time caregivers.

This team has a special talent for knowing just how to get the best from each person they care for. They are very warm, friendly and caring people.

Ruth Carter - Physiotherapist

Ruth Carter is our physiotherapist. It is her job to assess every resident in terms of their mobility needs. She then works with staff to make sure each staff member knows how to transfer residents safely. She is an essential person in our team.
