Our Staff

Our team cares for and loves each person who lives at Millvale House like we would a very best friend. This means that people feel loved and important. We:

  • accept you as you are
  • really listen to you
  • love to hear you laugh
  • forgive your mistakes
  • have fun together

We have the knack of working with people with dementia.

We believe that the people who make up our Millvale team need to be nurtured too. Millvale offers a service where all team members can see the doctor free of charge. Staff Support is offered by Millvale and delivered by Workplace Support N.Z. This means the people who make up our team are assisted to be completely available to the people they care for.

All of our staff have much experience in caring for people with dementia. They are specialists in their field. Our team has been hand picked with great care.

Kay Williams - Nurse Manager

I came to Millvale because I was excited about the opportunity to clinically manage a continuing care and high dependence unit. I have very broad experience in managing aged care facilities and greatly enjoy involvement with residents, staff and families. It is so satisfying to provide a humanistic and holistic approach when working with residents and families, building and maintaining relationships with the residents and family members to ensure the well being of the individual, family, and whanau is protected and nurtured.

I aim to ensure Millvales vision, values and philosophy are reflected throughout every aspect of our home.

At Millvale we take pride in providing a holistic approach, aiming to give the very best of care and support, not only our residents but to staff and family also.

Simon Hamley - Education Coordinator

I have worked as a registered nurse for the past 25 years, most of that in the UK. I love working in dementia care; each day is different and I strive to get to know each person for who they are, the life they have lead and the things they enjoy.

Education is an area that has always given me great satisfaction. It is great to see staff learn and grow and improve skills and I am always keen to share my experience and knowledge with them. As a nurse, I have always been a teacher – nurses teach clients and families about health and how to manage health problems. However, I have also been lucky enough to spend time teaching adults in a 'classroom' situation, most recently at Kings Education in Christchurch teaching elderly care.

Away from work I have a passion for football (soccer) and have coached several boys teams (teaching again!) I want all staff to feel comfortable, confident and happy to provide wonderful care. Sadly, I am loosing my hair, but my Father once told me - 'Grass never grows on a busy street'.

Ruth Carter - Physiotherapist

Ruth Carter is our physiotherapist. It is her job to assess every resident in terms of their mobility needs. She then works with staff to make sure each staff member knows how to transfer residents safely. She is an essential person in our team.

Kim Kerehoma - Weekend Manager

Kim works as a care giver and weekend manager and has been a part of the team at Millvale Levin for six years. Kim is very experienced in caring for the elderly and greatly enjoys special moments with residents. Kim says she likes the good team work at Millvale and is especially interested and rewarded by palliative care.

Melanie Gardiner - Weekend Manager

Melanie comes to us from long and extensive background in caring for the Elderly as a carer. She has delivered a high level of cares to our residents at Millvale House for over eight years now. Melanie say’s she especially enjoys caring for the elderly with dementia and special care needs and gains pleasure from creating valuable moments with them.

As a weekend manager, Melanie enjoys the challenges and rewards of leadership and embraces team work. Our residents and staff love Melanie’s caring nature and professional approach.
